We are offering a Tall and Short model of our custom designed porthole for mirrorless and DSLR cameras.
The Tall model is for larger zoom lenses and deeper systems which require you to insert the porthole into the water farther. The tall model can utilize 70mm macro lenses up to the bigger professional f2.8 zoom lenses with diameter up to 95mm. The tall model does have a vignette effect on lenses smaller the 70mm do to it's height.
The short model is designed for those smaller prime lenses in the 35mm to 70mm range, however, you can still utilize some of the larger lenses with the shorter model due to the longer mounting system we have incorporated. The short porthole is mainly for those wider lenses and shallow depth systems from 20in to 8in.
We are also including 2 different shadow rings which mount on top of the porthole to block out any excess lighting from entering the porthole and giving a mirror effect in the pictures. The smaller shadow ring is for lenses from 70mm in diameter to 82mm and the larger shadow ring is for the larger zoom lenses from 80mm to 95mm in diameter
Ultimate Pro Mirrorless/DSLR Kit Includes the following:
Complete Porthole Kit with LED lighting, Battery, Hot shoe mounted battery holder, Shadow ring and a stainless 1/4x20 d ring for mounting to camera
Description:
We have designed and tested these in numerous scenarios on the farm and developed what we believe to be the most user friendly Porthole setup on the market today. We've tried all the other different products out there, spent our own money to buy them only to find they fall short in different areas.
So we took all the short comings and got rid of them to create this very useful and easy to use Reef Tank Photography Porthole for the hobbyists to the most seasoned professional.
These models are designed to be used for Mirrorless and DSLR cameras utilizing the tripod mount on the bottom of your camera. The LED Lighting can be custom made to order. Using the following configurations:
1 White LED and 1 Blue LED - this is good for a mixture of corals providing both spectrum of light and still adjust your custom white balance to your specific needs in the camera. While still illuminating the corals fluorescence to max potential.
2 Blue Leds lights, this option maximizes the fluorescence in the corals and giving them some of the best colorations, Again you will need to adjust your in camera white balance settings to confirm the coral appear as normal as possible without looking manipulated. We use a Tiffen 85B orange filter to accomplish the best results with our mirrorless cameras. Due to this being a more professional model, we are not including the filters in this kit as different lenses have different thread sizes.
2 White Leds for the daylight mode. This requires less white balance adjustment and is mainly for taking pictures of the fish, clams and other animals which do not fluoresce as mush as most corals or invertebrates.
The led lighting we chose have been testing for approximately 4 years now and have had minimal to no issues. They are not waterproof. So please do your best not to dunk your porthole under the water. With that said, if you do happen to get some water in your porthole, disconnect the battery from the lights and do a quick RO water rinse, then allow to dry a full 24 hours prior to operation again. We have found very rarely do the lights malfunction.
The battery pack we chose will give you hours of photography use before needing to be recharged. The battery pack also has a USB A port so you can charge other accessories with it. Although charging other accesories and using the lights will diminish the battery usage time. We tested multiple battery options and chose this battery as it had the best size and power consumption with no issues during testing, several of the other battery options available had different issues during testing and we chose not to use them.
